ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE:

It is essential that each child is signed in each morning and signed out upon release. Please indicate when you sign in if any medications are needed to be administered, any special procedures followed, any unusual person may be picking up the child, if the child may be picked up early for any reason, etc.

Children will often miss their parents and may cry upon their departure. It is normal for your child to cry on arrival, especially for the first few weeks. It is a natural occurrence and the crying will stop within a few minutes after the parent leaves. If your child does a significant amount of crying at drop-off time, please make your stay brief. It is harder on the child when you prolong your stay. A smile, cheerful good-bye kiss, and a reassuring word that you will be back is all that is needed. In my experience, children are nearly always quick to get involved in play or activities as soon as parents are gone. You are encouraged to listen outside of the door if you are concerned, to be sure the crying stops, as it normally does.

CLOTHING:

Please dress your child in play clothes that are comfortable and easy to change should they become soiled. A change of clothing and a warm sweater or jacket should be brought daily. Clothing that are to good to be subjected to paints, grass, water and outside play should not be worn. Any type of clothing that covers the knees is best for crawlers and toddlers, and non-slip rubber soled shoes are best for children who are walking. Children should arrive dressed for play. We like to have fun! All clothes need to be labeled with the childs name.

SUPPLIES:

Each day, please bring a diaper bag, labeled with your child's name, with the following items:
Infants: Diapers, wipes, powders/ointments, pacifier, (if used) bottles, formula or breast milk, any special baby food and a couple complete changes of clothes (replace when soiled).
Toddlers & Children: Diapers, pull-ups, wipes, pacifiers, swimsuit and towel (summertime), and complete change of clothes (replace when soiled).
Please write your child's name on all belongings. The provider is not responsible for ANY items brought from home.

If your child has a favorite nappy time toy, please bring it and I will get it out of their bag at nap time. I am not responsible for any loss or breakage of personal items. All personal items must be clearly marked with the child's name.

TOILET ING POLICY:

For infants and toddlers in diapers, disposable or cloth diapers may be used. An adequate amount may be brought daily in their diaper bags, or lager amounts (clearly marked) may be brought and stored here on a regular basis.

For parents who prefer to use cloth diapers, pin less diaper wraps, and plastic bags for soiled diapers should also be included. Soiled cloth diapers shall not be rinsed.

We are happy to work with the parents towards toilet learning and will watch for signs of readiness in the child that will demonstrate that the child can begin to participate actively in leaning to use the toilet.

When you feel your child is ready for toilet teaching, I ask that you begin this teaching at home for at least 1 week. I will follow through and encourage your child while in my care. Toilet training will be done in a relaxed manner with the cooperation of the family. Parents need to supply training pants with plastic pants or pull-ups, plus a couple of extra changes of clothing each day (don't forget the socks!). During potty training you are asked to supply me with at least 2 extra full changes of clothing, including socks and training & plastic pants or pull-ups. These are to be left at the day care and replaced as needed. Soiled clothes will be returned in a plastic bag at the end of the day.

Jeanne's Daycare is registered with the Evergreen Food Program, which ensures that healthy, nutritious food is served to your children for Breakfast, Lunch and Afternoon Snack. Please do not provide your child with additional candy or snacks. On special occasions, such as a birthday, please make arrangements with me if you wish to provide cupcakes for all the children on your child's special day.

For infants, we provide rice and oatmeal baby cereal, a fresh banana or pear that has been put through a baby food mill, or commercial baby food. Please let us know which foods your baby has already tried, and which items you wish to avoid. If you wish to have your child only eat special foods, such as soy milk, organic or other items, you must provide these foods, plus breast milk or formula.

NEIGHBORHOOD WALKS AND FIELD TRIPS:

My program includes neighborhood walks, playground visits, walks to the mailbox and other out-of-house activities that involve transportation of children by foot, or in strollers. These activities may or may not be preplanned. If you wish your child not participate in these activities, please indicate so on the "Family Child Care Home Permission Authorization". Older children and school aged children are driven to local parks, the library, for "special treat day" to a local pizza parlor or for an ice cream, a hike, etc. There is usually no additional charge for these activities. Each year, usually during summer, we go on special field trips to the zoo, local museums, a movie, stage show and other special events. There may be an additional charge for these activities. If a trip is preplanned I will notify you in advance. If a field trip is planned parents will be notified well in advance and a permission slip will need to be signed.

QUIET / NAP TIME:

All children will have a rest period from 1:00 p.m - 3:00 p.m. everyday. No child is forced to sleep, however they must remain quiet. The infants and toddlers are placed in a crib or cot so they can nap. For the youngest infants, if the parents provide a portable car seat that is a cozy a portable place that they can nap as needed.

TELEVISION:

Monday through Friday, the T.V. is only on for a short while during nap time so that the children who do not sleep can relax and watch a children's video or cartoon. Also, at the end of the day, the older children are permitted to watch thirty minutes of television as a reward for completing their homework, etc. T.V. watching is kept to a minimum and is never mandatory. I may also elect to show a tape that is usually related to the weekly theme.

OUTDOOR PLAY:

Part of every day will be spent outside weather permitting. We will go for walks, or play outside in my secluded backyard.. The children should be dressed appropriately to stay warm and enjoy being outside. If your child isn't feeling well enough to play with the other kids or go outside then your child is too sick to be in daycare that day. If your child is brought and they are not able to participate you will be called to come and get them. Children not feeling well will be much happier to be at home in familiar surroundings.

ILLNESS:

Many children experience allergies and runny noses, but are not ill. Any child with fever, vomiting, diarrhea, pink eye or other infectious diseases should not be brought to daycare, and parents will be called to pick up their children if they develop the following
SYMPTOMS REQUIRING REMOVAL OF CHILD FROM CHILD CARE
The following illness policies will be strictly enforced, for the health, well being and safety of all concerned.
1. Fever (100 F. higher)-Child needs to be fever free for 24 hours
2. Nausea or vomiting
3. Diarrhea: runny or watery stools, or 2 or looser stools within last 4 hours
4. Sore throat, loss of voice, hacking or continuous coughing, runny nose with colored discharge
5. Runny and/or Crusty Eyes: Watery, matted, and/or red/pink eyes are not acceptable in childcare
6. Unexplained Rash
8. Lice (may not return child to care until no more nits are spotted)
9. Communicable diseases (chicken pox, rosella, conjunctivitis, mumps, measles, influenza, etc)

This benefits your child and the other children. Your compliance is appreciated, and will be compensated with the assurance that all ill children will be kept home. Parents of children who become ill during the day will be promptly notified. Parents are to make arrangements to pick up or have their children picked up immediately. In order to reduce exposure and risk to other children in my childcare, the sick child will be isolated from other children (if possible) until the arrival of a parent or emergency contact. If the parent cannot be reached, the person designated as the Emergency Contact and then Alternate Contacts will be notified. Children with acute non-infectious illness such as ear or sinus infections may only be brought to Jeanne's Day Care if a fever is not present and they are able to participate in activities. Parents of a child with a diagnosed contagious condition (measles, head lice, pink eye, mumps, chicken pox, etc) are asked to notify me as soon as possible so that I may alert parents to watch for symptoms in their own children.

MEDICATION:

If your child is on medication and it needs to be administered while s/he is at daycare, the medicine must be in the original container and labeled with the child's name, doctor's name, name of medication, dosage, and when to be taken. All medicines that is not prescription medicine, i.e. Tylenol, cold medicine, etc. needs to be in original container. In either case, please notify me that medication is required to be administered, and write on the sign in form the times and amount that needs to be given to the child. Please provide appropriate droppers, medicine cups, etc, in order to administer the medication.
